In short, it makes bugger all difference. I'm not the kind of person to get hung up on rules changes, I tend to lean towards the school of thouight that if you like certain models, you use them in your army. I preach 'the importance of being old school' often, and will no doubt rant about that in the near future.

I do of course wish to progress my various armies and I've no doubt that I'll play certain units in a different way. It is also a fact that I purposefuly choose to use rarely seen or 'unfluffy' choices for shock value, my own amusement, and most importantly to have a unique army.

My Deathguard Raptors are a prime example. If you're big into the fluff and background you'll know that the Deathguard, as instructed by their Primarch Motarion are big on simple foot slogging troops and little else. Now whilst I respect this and the excellent background of 40k there will always be exceptions to the norm - there will be on occasion a Deathguard army with units of jump pack equipped Deathguard.

Every now and then I have a look at the Chaos Space Marine codex and think about how I might use or model the various rarely seen and oddball choices.

For my Sons of Malice it's fairly easy to throw in a unit of possessed (which I plan to) as the model kit avaliable is gorgeous and does not reflect any one particulr chaos god, same goes for the chaos spawn.

It's a little harder with Deathguard as there is a defined look - diseased, bloated, pustulant, fly-ridden etc.

The Raptor unit was easy - old school jump packs on plaguemarine models...

But what about Chosen, Possessed of Bikers?

My present train of thought with Chosen is to acquire and use really old Rogue Trader era Nurgle Renegades, but this will take some time and no doubt be costly.

Would I ever used possessed? If I converted a unit then I would. The obvious option seems to me to crossbreed plaguebearers with plaguemarines - but I can't help but imagine crappy daemons in power armour. No, I need a theme if I'm going to do them justice. The one other insiration is the old 'fly mutation' nurgle chaos warrior. Perhaps using multiples of that figure, or even casting parts from it (the head) would work?

I dunno, just thinking out loud here.

I'm working on Raptors, so bikes are way down the bottom of my list.

Regardless, these little questions and thoughts will continue to bubble away as I work on the bulk of the Deathguard army project, sooner or later I'll solidify my ideas and try something out.

Plans

My desk is littered with stuff, but at present I'm concentrating on my Deathguard.

I've not really used my Deathguard since, er, well I've not used them under the new Chaos Space Marine Codex. For the past year or so my attention was focused on my Sons of Malice army (and brief lapse in to Tau) which works fine under the current codex.

Most of my Deathguard are older metal models and the paint scheme varied from unit to unit. Most of the models have been bathed in nitromors and are being repainted, but I've realised I don't like them that much. The Forgeworld resin models are calling me...

I plan to add something to my Sons of Malice for when 5th ed hits, not sure what though. I do really like the possessed models.

Besides all this I have long term plans to put together a Nurglesque renegade militia army using the Forgeworld kits. I already have (half painted) 20 of the renegades as well as a converted Basilisk and a few sentinels.

Then there's the daemon codex which I've still not got, 5th is coming in a few weeks and I plan to attend UK Games day and at the 40k Gran Tournament. Hmm, lots of £££!

Mabrothrax is online...

Well after reading numerous other gamers' blogs I couldn't help but start my own.

I tend to lurk in a number of Games Workshop related forums and pass by many more, but I contribute to very few - at present I'm feeling the love at Papanurgle.com.

What will I blog?
